We have the opportunity to view some amazing archaeological findings in Jerusalem dated back to the 1st Holy Temple period. This Temple was destructed in 586 BCE by the Babylonians.
We also get the opportunity to understand different excavation techniques, in this case, wet sieving. With a wet sieving technique, it is possible to track extremely small findings.
We are talking about the time of King Hezekiah that ruled 9 years until the destruction by the Babylonians and the exile of the People of Israel to Babylon.
There are a couple of ways to date archaeological findings:
1. Carbon 14
2. Identify ceramic jars, bowls & other household items that matches the time period
3. Find the right layer (strata) of the period
4. Coins or Bullas (stamps)
I’d like to thank The Watchman for this video which provides us information and photos of some of the findings of Jerusalem from the time of King Hezekiah and the destruction of the 1st Holy Temple in 586 BCE.
